Fink's Comments (rates this release 4.75/5.0)
An utterly fantastic release from Ladybird. Firstly there's the sound quality. Both the main show and the aftershows are clear audience recordings, however the quality of the Paisley Park aftershow is just slightly better (hence the EX) rating. The main Musicology show, although still head and shoulders above the majority of other shows is lacking a certain....something. Considering it is the first night in his home town, I would expect Prince to be on fire and really raise his game for the show, however the spark (slightly) appears to be missing.

The acoustic set is one of the longest of the tour so far, however almost half of it is nothing more than Prince indulging himself and I get the sense that the audience seem to loose interest during parts. The aftershows first act are a cool warm-up for Prince's set. 'Bustin Loose & No Diggity' are definitely Chance Howard's kinda groovz and he comes to life during these tracks especially. Prince's aftershow is an enjoyable, relaxed jam session. Only a few verses (if that) are sung from each song before it is turned into a long funk jam, showcasing each member of the band. The biggest disappointment being 'Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance' which is only a few lines from the song. This release doesn't match the sheer brilliance of VOLUME II, but that's no bad thing - this is still a knock-out 4cd set. It should be noted that this 12 Disc Set (Vol I, II & III) is a numbered, limited edition of 1,000 copies.
