Sourced from the 90’s release ‘Kaufleuten‘ this is yet another great example of
4DaFunk reworking and improving a release which sorely needs attention. The main
problem with the original release was the crowd level was rather obtrusive in
parts and they had a tendency to overpower the recording and drown out the show.
Thankfully this 4DaFunk version has greatly reduced the audience level with the
result that the band are to the fore of the recording and the audience level is
minimal. It’s not without it’s problems though and there are a few hollow dips,
but these are very minimal in comparison to the original release and barely
worthy of mention.
From a personal perspective, this isn’t my favourite aftershow from the Act II
tour, but it’s a great document of the shows Prince was playing at the time. The
band are every bit as important as Prince and there are a number of tracks where
they are very much the stars of the show including the opening ‘Deuce And A
Quarter’, a fantastic ‘Six’ and the jazzy ‘Intermission’. The trio of ‘Come’,
‘Endorphinmachine’ and ‘Peach’ are the undoubted highlights of the show with
special mention going to the guitar work on the latter. The original release of
this show has been in circulation for over a decade and I’ve grown up listening
to it containing all it’s flaws, so to hear it now after having been vastly
improved and corrected is a real treat. As the accompanying artwork states “You
won’t need another version of this show”.
