Sourced from Raiders Of The Lost Art’s ‘Glam Slam West’ 1994
release, this is another excellent re-working of a classic show and of an
already excellent audience recording. The recording was already mightily
impressive, however to their credit 4DaFunk have reduced the more audible crowd
members, cleaned up the sound and corrected a number of small glitches from the
original release.
A number of fades during the show have (all but one) been eliminated and the
skip towards the end of the show has been removed extremely professionally. This
was a fantastic choice of show to have done some work on as not only is Prince’s
set one of the best 1994 shows, but both Mavis Staples & Stevie Wonder join the
New Power Generation onstage. Stevie is up first and begins with a speech
touching on musical inspiration and the effects various artists have had on both
himself and Prince (he also appears to be one of the few people at the time who
actually gets away with calling him Prince). Once Stevie is off the stage, Mavis
Staples takes over vocals for ‘I’ll Take You There’. The remainder of the show
is pretty standard fare for a 1994 show, but does include a great, very frantic
almost country & western instrumental immediately proceeding ‘Get Wild’. As this
is sourced from the original Raiders Of The Lost Art release, it also includes
the bonus material which is also on there.
The first is the broadcast from the VH-1 Honors including the performance of
both ‘Interactive’ (complete with “bitch” edited out) and ‘Endorphinmachine. The
release closes out with a highlights package from the following night’s Glam
Slam show and whilst the recording is slightly thinner than the 26th June
recording, it is still an EX- recording with a vastly different set from the
night before (the complete recording can be found on 4DaFunk’s ‘Acknowledge
Me’).
