Comments(rates this release 4.25/5.0) I actually prefer the Beautiful Strange CD (bambi) to this one
as the content is better. This release has better packaging by far and the sound
quality is the same, but the first track is cut shorter than on the Bambi
release.
Dale's
Comments(rates this release 4/5.0) The Beautiful Strange Intro is enough to drive you mad. Not
because it's bad, but because it leaves you wanting to hear more. The band has
some good chemistry going in this show. The sound and packaging are excellent,
but if you aren't fond of Chaka Khan, Larry Graham, and Doug E. Fresh, then you
might skip this release since they literally account for over half of the show.
Although, to me, they are in top form here and I like them to begin with. Prince
sings the Beautiful Strange Intro then Doug E. comes on for Push It Up with
Prince doing backing vocals. Prince comes back on lead vocals for the next two
songs then introduces Chaka Khan after which he is basically non-existent until
the end of the show where he shares the mic with Doug E. Fresh some more. The
interview is rather interesting because of how playful Prince is with Mel B.,
but it seems a bit rehearsed in my opinion.
